Becks Urban Experience Berlin: Impressions

November 2, 2009

_AAC0376

Last thursday Becks – the biggest and probably most successful German beer brand from the beautiful city of Bremen – invited about 500 people for a truly urban experience. Of course there was free beer and if one asked nicely one would also get a green Becks eventhough it looked like there was only Becks Gold available. A great Burger and Hot dog buffet made pretty much all none vegetarians happy.

All in all it was a fun and playful collaboration of street artists, modern art, musicians and baking beer bread as well as getting to play a little bit with the famous “Carrera Bahn”

Becks Urban Experiences can be found here.

Maria Gimeno

If we were capable of concentrating all our emotions in one small gesture, capable of saying everything in one brief phrase, in the slightest of movements. We would be great without being so.

The small hole in the glass is window to wisdom. If you take the chance of looking through, truth is what you may find. Consumed in a vicious circle of cruelty and egocentricity. Devoured as individuals by a superior being, a controlling and globalizing mechanism… where we hide what we do not wish to see… Goya´s image of Saturn devouring his sons is for me the perfect metaphor of the society in which I live.

This artwork is an essential part of my culture, of my pictorial tradition. I have opted to adopt Saturn but as a delicate embroidery representing the society in which we live

October 8, 2009

e1244469984

Autumn Greetings!

We are pleased to announce that Slideluck Potshow XIV will be taking place on Friday, November 13, 2009 at The Aperture Foundation in Chelsea and will be co-curated by Lesley Martin, Aperture’s book publisher.

The theme of our fourteenth show in New York City is INSIDE OUT. This could be about being on the outside, looking in. Or it might be about the idea of space: boundaries, architecture, interiority. Give us something against type, that reverses the expected order of things – work that turns things upside down, or rather, INSIDE OUT. The submission deadline is Monday, October 26th and the guidelines can be found here.

For this show, all guests will need to purchase $10 tickets support of both SLPS and The Aperture Foundation. Due to spatial limitations, this event will be considerably more intimate than recent NYC Slidelucks. If you are serious about securing a spot for this show, we invite you to purchase your tickets immediately! If you are serious about showing your support for Slideluck Potshow, please consider becoming a member now.

A young group of dancers is ready to conquer Germany … we supported them with some TShirts for their start if you want to find out more keep on reading:

Based on the characters from the ballet Petrushka (Petrushka, the Moore, the Columbine and the Charlatan) which was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev with a libretto by Alexandre Benois and music by Stravinsks, “Love Hurts … Petrushka” explores the dreams that love inspires, the pain of loss and the elusiveness of peace.

Mario Schröder, Ballett direktor of Ballett Kiel, choreographs together with Julie Pecquet, who is responsible for the Hip Hop parts.

With the addition of original music by hip-hop pioneer DJ Opossum and set / costumes by Claus Stump, this new, evening-length production is already a much-anticipated dance event in Europe, set to premiere on October 24, 2009, in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
